4.5/5

You can tell me I am wrong all you want, but Solo is one of the best Star Wars films. Solo's arc is perfectly realized and creates the man we meet in A New Hope. Alden Ehrenreich perfectly captures the essence of Han, and the set pieces are some of the best Star Wars has to offer. The score is fantastic and is the best Star Wars score not (entirely) done by John Williams (I'm sorry, Michael Giacchino. You know I love you). To be fair, sometimes the lighting is too dark, and one or two references were too on the nose for even me (others were cool to see, like the Kessel run). There is even an argument to be made concerning the development of the secondary character's relationships. However, the creators do a good job connecting you to the characters on screen without sacrificing the exhilarating pace of the film. Sure, the shots are not as well composed as Rogue One, but the characters and story are infinitely more engaging for the entire runtime. This is good Star Wars. If you are capable, reevaluate this one with an open mind. It is an absolute blast!
